Known as sacrificial anodes, they give themselves up to prevent the electrochemical reactions that would otherwise damage your vessel’s propellers, shafts, and other underwater metals. Why zinc anode replacement is important
Galvanic corrosion happens when different metals in contact with seawater generate electrical currents, which eat away at underwater metal parts like propellers, shafts, and fittings. Zinc anodes protect those critical systems by corroding first. Once an anode is more than 50 percent depleted, it loses effectiveness and should be replaced quickly, before your expensive running gear starts taking the damage.
How often should you replace zinc anodes?
In Florida’s saltwater conditions, zinc anodes typically need replacement every three to six months, depending on usage, water conditions, and storage. Regular inspections help determine the right schedule for your vessel, and because we track anode condition on every dive, replacements happen at the right time rather than on a guess.
